Inspiration

Everybody claims to care about sustainability but few people commit to changing their habits. Many stores in Switzerland give out points in order to incentivize customers to buy things. We think, that sustainable buying decisions should be incentivized as well.

What it does

Our app let's users gain token rewards for buying more sustainable products. When users connect their account to the accounts they have with their supermarkets they earn Vidar tokens for buying sustainable products. The amount of tokens depends on how sustainable the product is. These tokens can in turn be used to unlock rewards inside the app. By allowing the customer to earn and spend rewards for more sustainable products we incentivize mor environmentally friendly buying decisions.

How we built it

We used Flutter and our Thor Requests Dart package that we submitted in this hackathon. By using our package the interaction between Flutter and the VeChain blockchain became a seamless experience.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was connecting the login information of the different retailers. Other than that we were on a good track in general.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a working app on different systems in such a short time is great to see and really shows the advantages of Flutter compared to building the apps on their native platforms. We are happy that we could show how much easier it is to build a cross platform app using VeChain with the Thor Requests Dart package.

What we learned

We learned that we can build an app that integrates with VeChain pretty quickly and that we need to focus more on the business aspect of creating a product as well. In order to make our app a success we want to build valuable partnerships to help promote sustainable buying decisions.

What's next for Vidaia

Our next steps are to build partnerships with different retailers in Switzerland to create a digital sustainability ecosystem. From a feature perspective we will integrate gamification elements like friendlists and leaderboards into the app in order to increase the engagement with the app even more.
