Inspiration
Civic issues such as potholes, garbage accumulation, damaged streetlights, and water leaks affect communities every day, but reporting and tracking these problems can be slow and fragmented. We were inspired to build CivicTrack AI to create a simple platform where citizens can report issues and authorities can prioritize and manage them more efficiently.
What it does
CivicTrack AI is an AI-powered citizen grievance platform. Citizens can submit civic complaints with descriptions, locations, and image evidence. The system uses AI-assisted analysis to understand the issue, support prioritization, and organize complaints. Citizens can also track the status of their submitted complaints, improving transparency and accountability.
How we built it
We built CivicTrack AI as a modern web application with a citizen-facing frontend and a backend connected to Supabase for database and application services. AI capabilities are integrated using OpenRouter and Groq for image understanding, decision support, and complaint triage. The application is deployed as a web-based portal using Netlify.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was connecting multiple services and making them work reliably together. We also had to design a simple reporting flow while handling complaint data, image uploads, AI processing, and status tracking. Configuring API keys, authentication, database connectivity, and deployment required careful testing and debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have built a working end-to-end civic reporting platform that combines citizen interaction, AI-assisted analysis, structured data management, and complaint tracking. We created a solution that can turn an unstructured citizen complaint into actionable information for faster and more organized civic response.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate AI APIs with a real-world application, connect a frontend with Supabase services, manage environment variables and API credentials, and deploy a full-stack application. We also learned that effective AI solutions require a clear user workflow and reliable data handling, not just an AI model.
What's next for Victory's Project
Next, we plan to improve AI-based image verification and severity detection, add intelligent complaint routing to the appropriate departments, introduce real-time notifications, and provide analytics dashboards for authorities. We also want to scale CivicTrack AI to support multiple cities and languages while making civic issue resolution more transparent and efficient.
