Inspiration
Inspiration came from the theme of the event, "Festival of Colors". After researching the festival, I thought about what would be useful at large events with like this and what are some of the problems people face. The idea behind this project came from the difficulty in meet-up with friends, finding a restroom, or looking for a snack. These event can be spread over large areas so finding your way around can be difficult.
What it does
This is a project for a festival map overlay that works with the user's google map to find locations inside the event area. The user would be able to follow the preset locations with their GPS to navigate the event. They are also able to select icons on the overlay to reveal more information about the festival.
How we built it
Screens were created in Sketch and uploaded to Zeplin for handoff. The website was built using html, javascript, jQuery and Google Maps API.
Challenges we ran into
The hackathon wasn't very long so we were only able to implement the user's side of the project. If we had more time we would have also included how to create the overlay from the organizer's perspective. Narrowing our focus to just the information and map page would have given us more time to perfect the main parts of the project. Also we lost a good bit of time because we didn't have an idea until after the hackathon started. Some pre-planning would have helped.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We felt there was good communication among the team and we were able to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time.
What we learned
This whole project was a learning experience from start to finish. We learned a great deal about how hackathons work. We also learned about how UX/UI designers and Web Developers work together. There were a lot of conversations about the information each role required and what formatting was best for delivery.
What's next for Vibrant Events
Unfortunately the project remains a bit unfinished and unpolished. We hope to complete it.
