Inspiration
"If you love life, don't waste time, for time is what life is made of." ~Bruce Lee
COVID-19 doesn’t just make people physically sick. It may also be harmful to emotional, mental, and interpersonal well-being. There is a pressing need for planning longitudinal and developmental studies, and implementing evidence-based elaborative plans of action to cater to the psycho-social and mental health needs of the vulnerable children and adolescents during the pandemic as well as post-pandemic.
The inspiration, I took was from my past self (About 3 months ago). the months of May and June were at a standstill, due to a nationwide "circuit breaker". I took this as a golden opportunity to learn some basic programming languages like Python and HTML.
What it does
Vibing is an app that is developed by the principle of simplicity, framed with the help of the MIT App Inventor Software. It features a variety of mini-games that includes:
A Software which suggests a person an activity
A Maths quiz- Has a maths quiz based on multiplication of two random numbers between 1 and 100
Scriblr (Allows doodling on pictures)- Allows end user to take photographs and doodle on them
A Talking Parrot-Features a talking parrot that repeats what you say
Tic-Tac-Toe- Classic Game of Tic Tac Toe; can be enjoyed by two players
Basketball-A game which lets the user throw a "ball" into the hoop to score points
How I built it
The app was built using the MIT App inventor software. It contains simple features like buttons, lists, canvas, notifications, sound, text boxes, animations, camera, and other such features.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge I faced was to figure out how to code the responses to user inputs in the app, for eg. How to add scores, how to make the ball from basketball respond to input, etc. However, overall had a wholesome and enjoyable time coding the application.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of the fact that I had actually managed to create a functioning app, despite not having prior knowledge and experience of this app. I am also happy that I was able to fully debug my code successfully.
What we learned
This hackathon gave me the experience of working with programming languages that allow developers to create apps/software with the help of premade blocks and tiles. With the knowledge I gained during my coding experience, I strive to create more such apps and further improving my coding dexterity. This hackathon also encouraged me to further dive deeper into the world of coding and learn new languages.
