Inspiration
Came from struggles associated with finding new music. Most of the recommendations that services like Spotify provide are so close to the current music preferences that it is really hard to discover new, diverse music.
We wanted to come up with a solution that allowed users to find and sample new music/artists both digitally and offline.
What it does
Vibelist helps fans find new music in public spaces (or local businesses) based on their current vibe and location.
The goal of the app is to provide users with a current playlist that is featured in the local venue (can be bars, restaurants, public stages) that matches their vibe criteria. Users have an option to add music from the playlist to their connected music streaming services (like Spotify), find out more information on the venue and potentially make a decision to visit the local business - ultimately bridging the gap between digital and offline music discovery.
How I built it
Android app using react-native + spotify api + soundcloud api + universal music group api.
Challenges I ran into
Time restrictions, identifying 'vibe' categories, working with Android/Apple devices.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Design elements and a draft prototype.
What I learned
That the hardest part of an idea development process is simplifying an idea to be easily digestible.
What's next for Vibelist
Refine 'vibe' categories to be more user friendly. Further api integration to enhance discoverability features.
