Inspiration
The stock market is full of noise, trending tickers, viral hype, and endless hot takes. For many, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s just hype. We believe everyone deserves a clear, trustworthy way to understand what’s actually happening in the market. That’s why we set out to create a chatbot that cuts through the noise, helping users separate hype from true performance and make smarter, more informed financial decisions. Inspired by platforms like TikTok and the Morning Brew newsletter, we also wanted our chatbot to be approachable and easy to engage with, delivering insights in a quick, casual, and conversational style. It’s not just about staying informed, it’s about understanding the "why" behind the movement, all in a format that feels as natural as texting a friend.
What it does
VibeCheck analyes recent news trend on a spefic stock that the user inputs. The user can input the stock name or ticker and VibeCheck will research to generate the following information:
- Quick Stock News Recap 📰 – One paragraph on the latest relevant news/trends about the stock.
- Buy Rating (out of 10) 📈 – How good of a buy it is right now with credible news backing
- Hype Rating (out of 10) 🗣️ – How overhyped or underrated it is with credible news backing.
- The Vibe Check 🤔 – VibeCheck's call on a stock: Buy, Hold, or Sell.
- Should You Buy? – Short guidance depending on risk tolerance and belief in the company.
- Receipts 🧾 – A few key facts to back up it's rating.
How we built it
We created a front end and back end for our stocks chat bot website.
Frontend
Used Figma’s developer tools to design the website’s foundation and incorporated a real-time stock ticker widget from TradingView to display live stock prices. Developed the visuals using HTML and integrated Gemini AI to enhance functionality.
Backend
The code was built in Python using Flask. By leveraging Gemini’s AI API tool, we were able to design the chatbot with a stock expert persona, while ensuring it remains relatable to a younger audience or those simply looking to easily understand stocks. After testing various suggestions, this suggestion gave us the persona we were looking for:
" You are a finance and stock market expert. Your job is to break down whether a stock is overhyped and if it's a good buy, based on real market trends and reliable news. Use a Gen-Z tone, relatable, clear, and concise. Keep it short and sweet. No overexplaining. Emojis are necessary but don't overdo it. Give a short reasoning to why the rating is the way it is. Challenges we ran into
As beginners, many of the concepts we tackled during this project were completely new to us. Entering this project we did not know what an API was and how to use it. It took a really long time to figure out how to integrate Gemini AI, following the instructions for a simple chatbot on Google. Using Postman to test APIs without a front end was a challenge that we are still facing. Using Figma's developer tools was useful in taking a design we liked and making it our template, however challenges came when trying to figure out how to integrate our chat bot into it. So we decided to stick to a more simple design to make the integration look seamless and cleaner, as we are trying to push for a minimalistic look.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a full-stack project from scratch. We learned how to integrate Gemini AI into our chatbot and connected it with real-time stock data. We also learned how to use Figma and the developer tools. These were all new skills for us and are extremely proud to have gotten this project accomplished.

What's next for VibeCheck
- Cleaner chat look, make more spacing between each part for easier reading
- Improving the chatbots responses to be more accurate and reliable. At the moment it appears to be trying too hard to be casual and relatable to the audience, we want a more natural, less "cringey" respons
- Pulling up on the side quicker article headers from news sources, X, Reddit, etc. to give a full scale view of the it's being portrayed within the media.
- Creating a mobile version for easier access
- More visuals, graph generation of trends, etc
