Inspiration:

Planning a trip with a group of friends is very difficult. WhatsApp chats are chaotic, and Excel spreadsheets are boring. Everyone wants a different vibe. some want food, some want nightlife, and some want historic vibe. Plans always fail because friends cannot agree on places. I wanted to make group trip planning fun, social, and automatic. That is why I built "VibeBound."

🚀 What it does:

"VibeBound" is a full-stack interactive web application where friends can plan trips together in real-time. Shared Rooms: Friends can join a private room instantly using a unique room code.

  • Live Vibe AI: Friends chat normally about their holiday ideas. The AI works in the background, reads the messages, and calculates the group's "Live Vibe Profile" (Nightlife, Foodie, Culture, etc.).
  • Instant Recommendations: Based on the group chat vibe, the AI automatically suggests the best matching spots and creates a beautiful day-by-day plan instantly.

🛠️ How I built it

I built this full-stack application using Medo.dev the Technology I use are React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. This gave the app a fast, responsive desktop experience where the chat input stays sticky at the bottom and the sidebar is fixed. I integrated Gemini AI to analyze the text messages and understand the mood of the conversation in real-time.

🛑 Challenges I faced

The biggest challenge was fixing the layout. At first, the whole website was scrolling like a regular webpage. I had to refactor the CSS to make it a full-screen app layout where only the messages scroll, just like Discord or WhatsApp Web. I also faced database bugs where friends could not join the room code, but I fixed the query logic to make it work smoothly.

🧠 What I learned

I learned a lot about full-stack state management and how to handle live AI data. I also learned how to use First-Principle thinking to break down big UI/UX problems and fix them step-by-step using clean code.

What's next for VibeBound

In the future, we want to add live expense splitting (budget manager) inside the chat room, and direct booking links for hotels and flights based on the AI plan.
