Inspiration

  • The prevalence of depression and anxiety among young people
  • The undermined significance of building a safe space for oneself and recording joyful moments in life through photography and writing
  • The need to encourage those struggling with depression to seek help and find their community

What it does

  • Allows users to take/upload photos, then describe the highlights with a short journal entry.
  • Use emojis and toggle bar to record users' daily mental states, including quality of sleep, socialization, and overall mood.
  • Directs users to connect with friends and professionals and reach out to the national mental health crisis helpline.

How we built it

  • Identified design requirements from daily calendars that students use and academic research papers.
  • Analyzed the weaknesses of various existing mobile apps for photo journaling.
  • Brainstormed areas of improvement.
  • Conducted user surveys for design optimizations.
  • A full Figma project with initial brainstorming, flow diagrams, and digital demo on the web platform.

Challenges we ran into

  • It was our first time developing front-end amongst the team, and we ran into many conflicts deciding between the plethora of web-design tools.
  • Our familiarity level with Figma required a lot of research and learning on the fly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully functional Figma demo in 12 hours.
  • Highly successful and efficient collaboration within the team.
  • Created a visually appealing and user-friendly interface that combines usefulness and aesthetics.

What we learned

  • How to identify ideas worth pursuing for the Hackathon in general
  • Figma >>> Appgyver : ->
  • We can learn super quickly with a specific goal in mind
  • Seeking help from mentors is important

What's next for Vibe Check
