Inspiration
- The prevalence of depression and anxiety among young people
- The undermined significance of building a safe space for oneself and recording joyful moments in life through photography and writing
- The need to encourage those struggling with depression to seek help and find their community
What it does
- Allows users to take/upload photos, then describe the highlights with a short journal entry.
- Use emojis and toggle bar to record users' daily mental states, including quality of sleep, socialization, and overall mood.
- Directs users to connect with friends and professionals and reach out to the national mental health crisis helpline.
How we built it
- Identified design requirements from daily calendars that students use and academic research papers.
- Analyzed the weaknesses of various existing mobile apps for photo journaling.
- Brainstormed areas of improvement.
- Conducted user surveys for design optimizations.
- A full Figma project with initial brainstorming, flow diagrams, and digital demo on the web platform.
Challenges we ran into
- It was our first time developing front-end amongst the team, and we ran into many conflicts deciding between the plethora of web-design tools.
- Our familiarity level with Figma required a lot of research and learning on the fly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a fully functional Figma demo in 12 hours.
- Highly successful and efficient collaboration within the team.
- Created a visually appealing and user-friendly interface that combines usefulness and aesthetics.
