Inspiration

In India, farming is one of the biggest professions but there are so many problems farmers face in India like fragmented land area, lack of availability of resources, poverty, lack of transportation, etc. I wanted to create an application to help farmers by creating a community farming application.

What it does

It allows farmers to create campaigns for the farming season by entering details about their location and farm etc and a pre-defined goal which is the estimated amount of money they need. These campaigns are then visible to investors(normal users) both in the form of a list and on a map. They can then select and invest in any of these campaigns.

How we built it

I built a mobile application using React Native, NodeJS/Express, MongoDB, and Google Maps. I used Figma to design the frontend and logo.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge was to come up with an Idea for social goodness. The next challenge was to design and develop the frontend as I am a backend developer and this time I tried to do both things all by myself.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

First of all I am proud of the idea that I came up with to help farmers. Second, I was able to complete the required specifications on both the frontend and backend in time. I am

What we learned

I am a backend developer So I learned how to develop frontend and mobile applications using react and react-native. I also learned how to use Google Maps in a mobile application, like how to add markers and pins on map and how to use geolocation.

What's next for vHarvest

It is still a start but in future I want to tackle: -the problem of fragmented farming areas, which causes wastage of resources and low output. One solution is to allow farmers to pool their farming on our app and give them incentives, this way they’ll get more profit as well. -Pooling of transportation by making a freight service, as roads are less developed in rural areas transportation is hard. -Using machine learning to automatically calculate the profit, net harvest, total cost, etc using attributes like land area, region, time of year or season, type of crop, etc. -Selling of harvest directly to consumers or food processing companies
