Inspiration
Our app is inspired by our community. We have seen many young adults disengaged with many speakers. We wanted to create an app that will help speakers relate to their audience and come up with a good speech that can make their Halaqa’s/lectures clear. We wanted to create an app that allows the audience to leave a lecture knowing what the speaker’s message was.
What it does
Our app, Veyra allows Speakers to record their lectures into an ai-bot that gives them feedback. The feedback focuses on the audience, the message, and the delivery. After the recording the ai will give the user ideas on how they can improve their speech and engage with their audience. The website will save these feedbacks in order for the speaker to reflect and improve on what they struggle with most.
How we built it
We built Veyra by putting all our ideas in ChatGPT and asking it to create a prompt. We then put that prompt into Codex, which created this Webiste.
Challenges we ran into
While creating our website, we faced several challenges. One of the biggest challenges was figuring out how to make the halaqa ideas interesting and different from traditional lesson formats. We also had to think about how to organize a large variety of topics, activities, discussion questions, and resources so that users could easily find what they needed. Another challenge was making sure the Islamic information and resources we provided were accurate and respectful. We also had to consider different audiences, such as children, teenagers, and adults, since an activity that works for one age group may not work for another. Finally, we had to balance making the website simple and easy to use while still providing enough features to make it genuinely helpful for halaqa leaders
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of the accomplishments we are most proud of is turning our idea into a website that can help Muslims create more engaging and meaningful halaqas. We are proud that we developed a platform where users can find creative topics, activities, discussion questions, and different ways to keep participants involved. We also worked to make the website easy to navigate and useful for different age groups and types of halaqas. Most importantly, we are proud that our project addresses a real problem in our community and could help halaqa leaders save time while creating a more interactive experience for everyone.
What we learned
- Public speaking is a skill that can be developed. It isn't just something you're either naturally good at or bad at.
- AI can make coaching more personalized. Instead of giving everyone the same advice, Veyra can identify each user's specific weaknesses.
- Practice alone isn't enough. People improve more when they practice → receive feedback → try again.
- Small improvements matter. Tracking things like confidence, clarity, pacing, and filler words lets users see their growth over time.
- Feedback should be specific. Saying “Good job!” isn't very useful. Veyra should explain what went well, what needs work, and what to do next.
What's next for Veyra
Veyra can grow from a simple website for finding halaqa ideas into a complete platform for planning, creating, and improving Islamic gatherings. In the future, Veyra could include AI-powered halaqa generation, interactive games, personalized recommendations, mobile tools, community-created resources, and accounts for mosques and MSAs. Our goal is to make it easier for anyone to create halaqas that are engaging, meaningful, and memorable.
