Inspiration
Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions people make. Buyers can easily find information about price, location and features, but understanding a property's climate risks and future liveability is much harder.
Information about bushfires, extreme heat and future climate projections already exists, but it is scattered across different datasets and often difficult to interpret.
We saw an opportunity to create a new business capability: AI-powered climate due diligence for individual properties.
What it does
SiteSafe lets users enter a property address and receive a climate assessment covering:
- Bushfire exposure
- Historical heat
- Future climate projections
- Adaptation options
- Potential adaptation costs
Our AI Copilot explains this information in plain language and lets users ask questions about their specific property.
We are also integrating ElevenLabs, allowing users to talk to SiteSafe about a property using voice as if speaking to a real estate agent.
How we built it
SiteSafe is a web application combining property information with climate and environmental datasets.
Our workflow is:
Address → Climate data → Analysis → Financial scenarios → AI explanation
The AI is grounded in the data collected for the selected property, allowing it to provide relevant answers rather than generic climate advice.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was turning complex climate data into information that an ordinary property buyer could understand.
We also needed to ensure that the AI did not present uncertain climate projections as guaranteed predictions. We therefore focused on clearly separating evidence, interpretation and assumptions.
Integrating multiple data sources and connecting them to the AI while maintaining accurate property context was another major technical challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that SiteSafe goes beyond being a weather dashboard or AI chatbot. We created a new workflow for property-level climate due diligence.
A user can go from:
An address → climate evidence → potential costs → an AI conversation about what it means.
We are particularly proud of connecting environmental risks with potential financial implications, helping users understand not only the risks but also what they could do about them.
What we learned
We learned that useful AI is about more than the AI model itself. The quality and structure of the underlying data are just as important.
We also learned that AI works best when it sits on top of a strong business capability. In SiteSafe, the AI makes complex property climate information accessible through natural language and voice.
What's next for SiteSafe
We want to expand SiteSafe beyond individual buyers and provide climate due diligence capabilities to:
- Real estate agencies
- Property marketplaces
- Mortgage lenders
- Insurers
- Property developers
We envision SiteSafe becoming a standard part of property due diligence, helping buyers understand not just what a property is worth today, but what risks and costs may come with owning it in the future.
SiteSafe — Know your property. Understand your risk.
