The human-animal bond dates back thousands of years. For many people, their pet is the only friend and family they have in the whole world. For many veterans, specifically those experiencing homelessness, disability or who are living with PTSD; a companion, therapy or service animal is a source of unconditional love and healing.
In the course of the last year, we discovered that many homeless veterans are denied access to housing because they do not have access to their animal's essential medical records. Many disabled veterans or those with PTSD can not gain access to mental health, physical therapy, and other life-saving resources because they lack the documentation proving their animal's certification. No record, no progress. And, most veterans would first remain homeless or sick before giving up their best friends. What if an app could store that essential data for free?
We created Vet Pets DB to serve as a database for all military personnel -- active or retired-- to store essential medical records for their animals. If this database can help one homeless veteran get off the street tonight, or help one veteran with PTSD find the mental health care they need, then Vet Pets DB will be a huge success.
Ultimately, we believe in the power of the human-animal bond. We believe that veterans and their pets are better together. This app helps ensure that lack of access to essential animal medical records will never be an obstacle for a veteran who wants to improve his or her life.
