Inspiration
Our inspiration was the perfect item of times past; something classic and yet still playful: the Tamagotchi! It's always a nice feeling when you are able to successfully care for a little friend, a little guy! The idea of an in-vest-i-gator soon appeared, a well dressed, 'lil (big) reptile came about: Vesty.
What it does
Our web app evaluates investment choices and provides feedback on whether they're good, bad, excellent, or worrisome. It serves as a beginner-friendly financial guide by offering insights in an easy-to-understand way. To make the experience more engaging, a friendly 'gator named Vesty, who walks users through their investment decisions with helpful comments and educational tips!
How we built it
The front end was made to be cute and accessible, especially for beginners. The app uses the interactive elements and emoticons to create a personalized experience for users. Vesty, our helpful character, is built into the interface to provide feedback and encouragement to keep you informed and learning.
Challenges we ran into
We built the app using Visual Studio Code and we wanted to make sure the buttons were all interactive and actually function to somewhere. We struggled a little with how to use past data into being displayed correctly, especially since there is such a large amount of information of investments out there to narrow down from. We also had wanted to make the profile as interactive as possible, and there was some struggle with making sure it was being. Balancing the model was hard as well, showing the statistics for low level risks, in more frequency than high level.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of how well the interactive parts of the app came together. From the engaging interface to the helpful and supportive feedback system, the app has the beginnings of a true learning companion. Vesty, our in-app guide, adds personality and charm to the experience. We're especially proud that this tool can genuinely help newcomers build confidence in their investment journey.
What we learned
Throughout the process, we learned a lot about how to make financial topics approachable and less intimidating. We also improved our skills in user interface design, logical structuring, and interactive feedback systems. Perhaps most importantly, we learned how impactful it can be to create technology that educates and supports people on their financial paths.
What's next for Vesty: Your Investi-Gator Bestie
We hope to add more little characters like a Duck-tective, his side kick, more little treats and stats bars to feed Vesty, and other progress stats to keep the user engaged and learning about their investments.
