Inspiration

Very Stupid Unicorns (VSU) is a mixed reality puzzle game built around the idea that your real-world environment should be an essential part of the gameplay, rather than just a background.

What it does

VSU brings whimsical characters and interactive puzzles into the player's physical surroundings. Room-aware spawning rules adapt the placement of virtual game elements to the geometry of the real environment.

The experience is designed for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with hand-based interaction at its core.

How we built it

VSU is being developed in Unity using C# and Meta Quest mixed reality capabilities.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges is designing gameplay that adapts to different room layouts while keeping interactions intuitive and comfortable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developing a room-aware spawning system that makes the player's physical environment part of the game design.

What we learned

Building a mixed reality-first game requires thinking about the player's actual surroundings from the beginning, rather than adapting a conventional VR game to passthrough.

What's next for Very Stupid Unicorns

Further development of gameplay mechanics, hand interactions, puzzles, content, and overall polish, with the goal of delivering a complete mixed reality experience.
