What it does
Very-Good-Project-Manager allows you to stay on top of all your projects. In one simple web page, you can:
- see which projects need attention
- view your projects' budget variance
- track time-cards in need of review
- track the weather at each project site
- see what projects are active at any particular time in the calendar view
How we built it
We started by putting as many ideas on the table as we could think of.
Next, we discussed our skill sets, and what we were interested in learning.
We decided we wanted to learn more about front-end development, and saw that there were multiple workshops that would help us to build a project in react, so we went with out most front-end heavy idea: the HeavyJob project manager challenge.
Challenge selected, we drew a mockup of what we wanted the end result to look like, and outlining the functions we wanted it to have. We put a heavy focus on the user, and dedicated time to refining our UI and determining which KPIs would be the most useful.
All that left was coding it... after we learned how to use React that is.
Challenges we ran into
This was a very front-end heavy project, which presented a bit of a problem, because none of us knew much about front-end development. None of our team members had used React before, so we had to learn along the way. By attending workshops and using online resources, we were able to learn the language from scratch and create a functioning visualization tool.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In a mere 24 hours, we went from knowing nothing about React, to building a respectable front-end. We are proud of our ability to learn quickly and work as a team.
What we learned
We learned enough about React to build our front-end... and also to know that we know nothing about React.
What's next for Very-Good-Project-Manager
Judgement! Very-Good-Project-Manager can also be easily expanded to include additional KPIs and add more customizability.
