Inspiration
We wanted to create something functional and creative yet simple enough for beginners to code in twenty-four hours. In our search for ideas we were inspired by the coolmathgames site because it seemed like a challenge to build a website that can host both links and games, and it provided a lot of freedom in design and function choices because of the simplicity of the idea.
What it does
The website itself is a host for nine games, and features a random game button in case users don't want to choose. There is also a help and about us page to give the impression of a functioning site.
How I built it
My group and I built the site in Sublime, using HTML and CSS. Each webpage is a separate file, and the linked games are taken from coolmathgames
Challenges I ran into
We had a lot of challenges getting the project off the ground and finding something that would work for a limited skillset. No one in my group was overly familiar with the programming languages used and what project was best, so we ran into many speed bumps deciding on the language and product. The design for the website was also a struggle, as we had to make a clean looking website with only a limited amount of familiarity with CSS.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of the design and function of my buttons and coordination of the games page, as it was all unfamiliar ground.
What I learned
My group and I cycled through python, java, javascript, and then finally HTML and CSS in an attempt to find a compatible language with our current skillset and software. During this we were able to become familiar and learn the basics of each language, and learn how to design a website from scratch.
What's next for Very Cool Game Website
We want to implement more language and features to add functions like a search bar, and we want to add more games to further the range of the website and improve the overall design of each feature.
