Inspiration
our inspiration came from the rising prices in the grocery stores coupled with an unprecedented real estate boom that's left many Americans wondering how to keep food on their table
What it does
A system for growing fruits and vegetables. The final product will be a stack of growing trays that are monitored and kept healthy
How we built it
After laying out the components we planned to incorporate, we went through and meticulously tested and wrote drivers for each one then assembled and wrote the overarching control structure for the system.
Challenges we ran into
The control system quickly became extremely complicated which with patience we were able to debug. Also, a component (numpad) we had originally planned on doing, due to time constraint had to be scrapped for a more feasible approach.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have come out here and competed against a bunch of talented engineers. We are also especially proud to have designed and implemented something that we can continue to develop into something that can beneficially impact our community.
What we learned
We learned the stress that trials and tribulations of a competition can bring out
What's next for Vertically Stacked Self-Sustaining Hydroponic System (VSHS)
We would need to 3D print a lot of components (trays and mounting brackets) to build a working prototype of the design.
