Inspiration

We were avid readers of medium but found ourselves frustrated by the paywalls behind many medium article, and writers were complaining they weren't getting paid enough. Creators needed to be empowered and have more transparency on how much creators should be getting paid for their work. The transparency of web3 payments on the blockchain makes this possible.

What it does

Vertical has a built in editor for creating professional long form content. User's can sign a message with their Metamask wallet to log in and create long form content. They can verify their account with twitter, and post content stored on the permaweb with Arweave.

Writers can freely write about anything they want and earn USDC for creating quality content.

Users can enjoy reading long form articles without a paywall.

How we built it

We built it using nextjs, react, tailwind, and utilizing many web3 libraries to connect wallets.

Challenges we ran into

Making sure our site was being indexed properly by google with good SEO patterns was essential for a platform like vertical. We had to use a lot of google's tooling to ensure that the proper routes were being indexed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting over 4000 unique visitors within our first week of launching

What's next for Vertical

Vertical is going to create tools for greater transparency on how creators are paid for the content they write.
