Inspiration Our vision was to create a highly reliable, feature-rich, and versatile AI assistant app that ensures uninterrupted access to multiple top-tier AI models through a seamless, mobile-first user interface.
What it does Vertex AI Mobile is a powerful multi-model AI assistant packed with advanced customization and management features:
Multi-Provider Failover Architecture: Integrated with 4 major AI API providers (Google Gemini, Groq, Mistral, and OpenRouter). If one provider encounters rate limits or downtime, the application seamlessly redirects requests to the next available provider without interrupting the user experience.
Voice Input & Messaging: Includes a built-in microphone feature for hands-free communication. Users can dictate messages directly and send them without typing.
Multilingual AI Capabilities: Native support for multiple global languages, automatically adapting responses to match the user's input language.
Project & Chat Management: Features a sidebar with full controls to create new project spaces, rename threads, or delete chat histories effortlessly.
Custom Theme Support: Built-in Light and Dark Mode toggles for personalized visual comfort.
Document & Image Attachment System: Includes an expandable media attachment menu to upload PDFs, documents, and images for AI context and analysis.
How we built it AI Models & Routing Logic: Implemented secure API integrations for Gemini, Groq, Mistral, and OpenRouter alongside auto-failover logic to maintain 100% service uptime.
Frontend & UI: Built a modern, responsive dual-themed interface featuring smooth navigation drawers, interactive voice input triggers, and dynamic attachment handling.
Development Environment: Architected and deployed using Replit with modern web and mobile application frameworks.
Challenges we ran into Due to temporary Replit environment credit limits during the build window, backend completion for the PDF document generation module was temporarily paused prior to submission, causing an error state during PDF rendering. However, all core application features—including the 4-provider failover engine, project/chat management, voice input, theme switching, and file attachment pipelines—are fully functional and live.
What we learned Gained valuable insights into engineering resilient multi-provider API fallback systems, managing complex state across dynamic application themes, and maintaining clean code organization under tight development deadlines.
What's next for Vertex AI Mobile Finalizing the backend PDF generation module as environment limits reset.
Expanding deep multi-modal analysis pipelines across all 4 AI providers for attached documents and images.
Adding extended export formats for chat history and research summaries.
