Inspiration
It began with a perfectly reasonable question:
“What if the Minecraft horror mod Verity were real?”
At first we dismissed the idea as a joke, but after a short amount of time we realized the genius behind it.
We loved how Verity transforms a familiar, comforting game into something unsettling and unpredictable. Our goal was to recreate that feeling, bringing him out of the Minecraft world and into our own!
What It Is
Verity is personal AI assistant who knows EVERYTHING.
It uses microphones/speakers to detect human interaction then responds through facial expressions and a voice of it’s own.
Verity can:
- Listen and actively respond to conversation!
- Autonomously drive and locate the nearest human
- Track your every move.
In simpler terms:
You do something → Verity notices → Verity makes it your problem.
How We Built It
We recreated the mod’s most recognizable elements using:
- Robot car for movement
- Python to orchestrate agent communication
- OpenAI for responses, Fish.audio for Voice model, DeepGram for TTS
- A LOT of arts and crafts to build the robot
- Arduino, Raspberry Pi 5, LCD Screen, 2 powerbanks, speaker/microphone, Arduino camera
Our biggest challenge was constructing the body for the robot. We solved it by brute force, we had to make use of all the low budget materials available!
The Future of Verity
This prototype is only the beginning, which is unfortunate for everyone.
With more time, we would:
- Create an even sturdier lightweight body to move around with
- Incorporate Verity’s facial recognition to distinguish people from food
- Help Verity build more appendages to walk around freely
Our ultimate vision is an experience where Verity could be freely transported to our world without any repercussions.
