Inspiration

When dealing with tax invoices and bank records, generative AI is risky—one hallucinated decimal point or bank account digit can lead to severe audit penalties. We wanted to build an automated document pipeline that companies and regulators can actually trust: fast, 100% hallucination-free, and legally verifiable.

What it does

VeriTrust processes financial compliance documents in four straightforward steps: Profile Setup: Sets up company tax details and risk thresholds (e.g., flagging transactions over $10,000). Pixel-Level OCR (Nutrient DWS): Extracts numbers and dates directly from raw PDF coordinates, preventing AI guesswork. Audit & Signoff: Human Gate: Automatically locks high-value or ambiguous transactions until a human auditor signs off. Template Engine (Doctavian): Compiles deterministic legal certificates and compliance clauses. Digital Signing (Foxit eSign): Merges the invoice and certificate into an ISO-certified, tamper-evident PDF dossier. Audit Dossier: Creates a downloadable compliance package protected by an immutable SHA-256 cryptographic ledger.

How we built it

Frontend: Built with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, featuring an interactive PDF coordinate viewer and a full bilingual toggle (English & Indonesian). Document Pipeline: Combined Nutrient DWS for coordinate OCR, Doctavian for rule-based document generation, and Foxit eSign for digital signatures and PDF merging. Backend & Security: Node.js/Express with SHA-256 hashing to track every step in an unalterable audit ledger.

Challenges we ran into

Connecting three separate document APIs (Nutrient, Doctavian, and Foxit) into a seamless, single-screen UI was tough. We also had to ensure the human review gate strictly blocked downstream compilation so no document could be generated without explicit human approval.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Proved that document compliance can be automated without relying on probabilistic LLM guesswork for numbers. Built an interactive coordinate visualizer where auditors can see exact bounding boxes on invoices. Shipped a working end-to-end demo with Gmail sync, multi-role access (Admin/User/Guest), and exportable audit dossiers.

What we learned

In financial audits, speed means nothing without accountability. Keeping a human in the loop for critical checkpoints turns automated workflows into legally defensible tools.

What's next for VeriTrust - Auditable Document Pipeline

Adding direct integrations with enterprise ERPs like SAP and QuickBooks. Expanding legal clause templates for cross-border banking and AML regulations. Anchoring SHA-256 audit hashes onto public decentralized timestamping networks.
