Inspiration Chargebacks cost merchants up to 3x the transaction amount. Enterprise solutions exist, but SMBs can't afford $2,500+ fees. We created an affordable, developer-friendly MFA solution merchants can integrate in minutes.

What it does Veritas adds security between customers and payment processors (Stripe, PayPal, Square). We verify customers via email and assess risk using device fingerprinting. Merchants get a dashboard to spot suspicious patterns and set custom rules to prevent fraud.

How we built it We created a demo e-commerce site, developed a script that intercepts payment flows, and built a backend API for verification and risk assessment. All data is encrypted with HTTPS and salted hashing. The dashboard provides real-time analytics on anonymized fraud patterns.

Challenges we ran into Making MFA feel native without disrupting UX was our biggest challenge. We also balanced strong authentication against frictionless checkout, developed effective fraud detection without false positives, and ensured data anonymization while providing actionable insights.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We built a plug-and-play solution requiring minimal code changes. Our security-first approach—hashed data, encrypted transmission, device fingerprinting—provides enterprise-level protection at a fraction of the cost with unprecedented fraud visibility.

What we learned We gained knowledge of payment processor APIs and security requirements, best practices for financial data handling, chargeback economics, and building developer-friendly integrations that don't disrupt workflows.

What's next for Veritas We'll implement ML for sophisticated risk detection, support more processors, add customizable MFA methods (SMS, authenticator apps, biometrics), create real-time fraud alerts with automated blocking, and pursue PCI DSS and SOC 2 certifications.
