Inspiration

Evaluating hackathon submissions is often chaotic, disjointed, and prone to lost evidence or inconsistent scoring across judges. Organizers and judges struggle with fragmented tools to review code, verify evidence, and maintain transparent rubrics. We were inspired to build VeriProof to create a single, unified platform where judges can seamlessly view real-time evaluation metrics and access verifiable project proofs in one place.

What it does

VeriProof streamlines the entire hackathon evaluation pipeline:

  • Interactive Evaluation Matrix: Provides judges with a structured, real-time rubric to score submissions accurately.
  • Downloadable Proof Hub: Centralizes access to project source code, demo videos, repositories, and technical proof files.
  • Automated Score Tracking: Keeps track of submission status and consolidates reviewer feedback in real time to ensure transparent, fast decisions.

How we built it

Designed with a focus on speed, accuracy, and usability:

  • Built a streamlined frontend dashboard allowing judges to navigate easily between candidate entries and rubrics.
  • Integrated a secure backend system to parse project details, organize scoring criteria into a clean evaluation matrix, and handle direct proof file access.
  • Implemented state tracking to maintain real-time scoring updates across reviewer sessions.

Challenges we ran into

  • Real-Time Data Sync: Synchronizing judging scores in real time while multiple reviewers were actively assessing the same submissions.
  • Proof File Verification: Ensuring smooth handling and secure access for varied file downloads and submission media links without performance lag.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully creating an intuitive end-to-end interface that drastically reduces judge evaluation time.
  • Coupling interactive, rubric-based scoring directly with downloadable proof of work to ensure complete transparency.

What we learned

  • The importance of designing clean, distraction-free UI workflows for high-stakes, time-sensitive tasks like judging.
  • Best practices for optimizing multi-file attachments and data synchronization under heavy concurrent user sessions.

What's next for VeriProof

  • AI-Driven Initial Screening: Implementing automated code quality and proof pre-checks to flag incomplete submissions before human review.
  • Multi-Judge Analytics: Adding consensus dashboards and bias-detection metrics to help hackathon organizers ensure fair outcomes.
