Inspiration

Students in primary, elementary, and secondary schools are consuming news from TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp daily, but most cannot tell what’s real and what’s fake. As a teacher, I saw this gap firsthand. Teachers want to teach media literacy, but they lack time and ready resources. That’s what inspired me to build VerifyED AI.

What it does

VerifyED AI is an AI-powered 40-minute lesson kit that teaches students aged 6-16 how to detect fake news. It gives teachers a complete classroom-ready package:

  1. Step-by-step lesson plan with clear instructions
  2. Live AI demo where students check real and fake headlines
  3. Printable worksheets for hands-on practice
  4. Assessment rubric to measure learning in minutes No extra preparation needed. Teachers just print and teach.

How I built it

I designed the lesson flow using ChatGPT, ensuring it fits into one class period. MagicSchool AI helped create the teacher guide and rubric. Canva and Google Slides were used for printable worksheets and visual aids. I kept the design simple so it works for primary, elementary, and secondary levels.

Challenges I ran into

Making one kit work for three age groups was challenging. I solved it by using adaptable activities and clear differentiation tips for teachers. Another challenge was making AI feel safe and useful, not overwhelming, for both teachers and students.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I built a complete 40-minute kit that works without internet dependency or complex tools. Teachers who tested it said it felt practical and easy to run. It’s ready to use from day one.

What I learned

I learned how to balance AI use with critical thinking. The goal is not to replace student thinking, but to train students to question, verify, and analyze information using AI as a tool.

What's next for VerifyED AI

Next, I want to add a student dashboard mockup, create a short demo video, and build a basic fact-check prototype. I’m looking for a UI/UX designer, video editor, and frontend developer to join the team.
