Inspiration

Every year, companies lose $47 million per 1,000 employees due to knowledge loss when team members leave. When a developer, manager, or key employee exits, they take years of institutional knowledge, context, and undocumented processes with them. The remaining team spends months trying to reconstruct what was lost.

We asked ourselves: What if knowledge could be captured automatically, continuously, and intelligently?

That question became VEQ - The Knowledge Continuity Platform.

What it does

VEQ is an AI-powered platform that automatically captures, organizes, and transfers institutional knowledge when employees transition out of a company. It integrates seamlessly with the tools teams already use every day:

  • GitHub - Captures code context, pull request decisions, and technical debt documentation
  • Google Calendar & Drive - Preserves meeting insights, decisions, and important documents
  • Slack - Archives critical conversations, channel knowledge, and team activity
  • Notion - Maintains documentation continuity and company knowledge bases
  • Linear & Jira - Tracks project history, sprint decisions, and bug resolution context
  • Zoom - Preserves meeting recordings, transcripts, and AI-generated summaries
  • Zendesk - Maintains customer support context and organizational knowledge

VEQ creates a "Continuity Vault" - a living knowledge graph that ensures no critical information is ever lost, regardless of team changes.

How we built it

We built VEQ using a modern, scalable tech stack:

  • Frontend: Next.js 15 with TypeScript for a fast, type-safe user experience
  • Backend: Next.js API Routes with server-side rendering
  • Authentication: Clerk for secure, multi-tenant user management
  • Database: Supabase (PostgreSQL) with Row Level Security for data isolation
  • AI Integration: OpenAI GPT-4 and Gemini for intelligent knowledge extraction and Brain Map generation
  • Integrations: OAuth 2.0 flows for 7+ major platforms (GitHub, Google, Slack, Notion, Linear, Jira, Zoom, Zendesk)
  • Deployment: Vercel for global edge deployment
  • Email: Resend for automated notifications and weekly AI digests

The platform features a beautiful, professional UI with a warm cream and brown color palette, designed to feel approachable yet enterprise-grade.

Challenges we ran into

  1. OAuth Integration Complexity: Integrating 7 different OAuth providers, each with unique scopes, callback URLs, and token refresh mechanisms, was a significant challenge. We had to implement robust error handling and token management for each provider.

  2. Database Schema Design: Designing a multi-tenant schema that securely isolates company data while enabling efficient knowledge graph queries required multiple iterations. We implemented Row Level Security in Supabase to ensure data isolation.

  3. Knowledge Graph Architecture: Creating an AI-powered system that can intelligently extract, link, and present knowledge from disparate sources required careful prompt engineering and data modeling.

  4. Real-time Synchronization: Ensuring that knowledge captured from various integrations stays up-to-date and consistent across the platform required implementing efficient webhook handlers and background sync processes.

  5. Performance Optimization: With multiple integrations and AI processing, we had to carefully optimize our API routes and database queries to maintain fast load times and responsive interactions.

What we learned

  • Multi-tenant Architecture: We gained deep experience in building secure, scalable multi-tenant applications with proper data isolation
  • OAuth & API Integrations: We learned the intricacies of integrating with multiple third-party APIs and handling various authentication flows
  • AI Prompt Engineering: We discovered how to effectively use AI to extract meaningful insights from unstructured data
  • Product Design: We learned to balance enterprise-grade functionality with an approachable, beautiful user interface
  • Rapid Development: Building a production-ready platform in a hackathon timeframe taught us prioritization and efficient development practices

What's next for VEQ

  • Microsoft Teams & Dropbox Integration: Expanding our integration ecosystem
  • Advanced AI Agents: Implementing autonomous agents that can proactively identify knowledge gaps and suggest documentation
  • Team Collaboration Features: Real-time collaboration on knowledge continuity plans
  • Analytics Dashboard: Insights into knowledge health and risk assessment for organizations
  • Enterprise SSO & Compliance: SOC 2 compliance and enterprise-grade security features
  • Mobile App: iOS and Android apps for on-the-go knowledge access

VEQ isn't just a tool - it's a paradigm shift in how organizations think about knowledge management and employee transitions.
