Inspiration

Cats. Fun, wholesome, and simple ideas.

What it does

Helps users have a cute and fun way to destress from the day and relax with cute cat pictures that are randomly generated. They can also add their own text and phrases to add personality to it.

How we built it

We programmed in Visual Studios Code using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, a cat images API, and one of NASA's space images APIs. Version control and code collaboration was managed through GitHub.

Challenges we ran into

When making a color picker, we ran into the issue of data not being run in the correct format to be used for specific outputs. We solved this issue by checking what was being returned in console logs and modifying the data to fit what the cat API was expecting.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to take what we knew and the new knowledge we gained during the hackathon (how to use APIs, how to deploy a website) to create a website that was both fun and a great learning experience.

What we learned

Most of us were able to learn how to use APIs and understand how to create simple sites through Visual Studios Code. Those who knew about it before the project, also learned about HTML and CSS concepts more in depth and teaching the beginners about the use of APIs.

What's next for VenusCats

As VenusHacks comes to a close, VenusCats will be used by its creators for the same purposes of generating cat pictures and GIFs to share with people. Some other updates may also be added later on, such as the type or cat pictures generated (happy, sad, fun, tired, etc.), adding filters for the images, and controlling the size of the picture generated.
