Inspiration

Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of the economy, but many business owners struggle to understand the real financial health of their company. Often, they invest heavily in machinery, inventory, operations, and expansion without realizing that their cash flow, profitability, or financial stability is deteriorating. By the time the problem becomes visible, the business is already facing serious financial risks.

We were inspired to build ProfitPilot, an AI-powered financial health monitoring platform that helps MSME owners identify risks early, make informed decisions, and avoid becoming another startup failure statistic.

What it does

ProfitPilot generates a simple and easy-to-understand Financial Health Score (for example, 60/100) based on key business metrics such as revenue, profit margins, cash flow, expenses, debt obligations, inventory levels, and growth trends.

The platform:

Calculates a real-time financial health score. Categorizes businesses into Safe, Warning, or High-Risk zones. Detects financial issues before they become critical. Provides AI-driven recommendations to improve business performance. Predicts future risks based on historical business data. Guides founders on the next steps required to meet investor, bank, or government funding criteria. Helps MSME owners understand whether they should expand, optimise costs, increase sales, or improve cash management.

Instead of finding out problems after months of losses, businesses get an early warning system that keeps them financially on track.

How we built it

We built ProfitPilot using a combination of:

Financial analytics models to evaluate business performance. AI-based risk prediction algorithms to identify warning signs. A scoring engine that converts complex financial data into a single Financial Health Score. Data visualization dashboards for easy business monitoring. Recommendation systems that suggest actionable next steps based on financial status.

The platform processes historical and current business data, identifies patterns, calculates risk levels, and generates personalized business improvement plans.

Challenges we ran into

Collecting reliable financial indicators suitable for small businesses. Simplifying complex financial calculations into a score that non-finance founders can easily understand. Handling businesses from different industries with varying financial structures. Predicting risks accurately despite limited financial data from early-stage businesses. Designing recommendations that are practical rather than generic.

What we learned

Cash flow problems often appear much earlier than founders realize. Predictive analytics can play a major role in improving startup survival rates. AI becomes most valuable when it converts data into clear actions.
