Inspiration

We come from a school with a very competitive culture (we aren't exaggerating, our school even has a famous documentary about its culture). This can take its toll on others mental health, and there are many times where we just want to rant and let it all out.

What it does

This app allows users to do just that, to scream (and type) their frustrations into the void, while receiving prompts from a virtual "therapist" to guide their journey.

How we built it

We used Android Studio and Java to create our app. Our "prompter" takes inspiration from the chatbot Eliza, built in the 1960s.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble starting the project because it was hard to enable the collaboration features. During the code, we had other technical struggles such as connecting a phone to the computer and tidying up some of the code involving our virtual therapist.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of integrating our virtual therapist, as well as the smooth UX design of the app.

What we learned

We learned about project management and how to distribute tasks among ourselves. We also learned how to use Android Studio and develop our first app.

What's next for Vent

We will increase natural language processing and enhance the explore page so that people can publish their entry logs. We think that publishing entry logs that recommend topics to people who rant about similar topics will help the community see that they aren't alone in their struggles.
