Inspiration
I wanted to explore the Atlassian Forge platform and get hands-on experience building an app for Jira. This Hello World project is my first step toward creating useful tools for the Atlassian ecosystem. It’s exciting to see how easy it is to build apps that integrate directly with Jira.
What it does
This app is a simple Hello World app for Jira. It displays a friendly message within the Atlassian product interface using Forge’s UI kit components. It demonstrates the basic structure of a Forge app and how to render content inside Jira.
How we built it
I used the Atlassian Forge CLI to create the project. Wrote the app using Forge UI kit and Forge Bridge. Deployed the app using forge deploy and installed it in my Atlassian site. The app’s manifest defines a simple module that renders "Hello World", Current Theme and Hello {current User}.
Challenges we ran into
Accessing read-user with permission scopes. Forge lint didn't work correctly or showed any issues i had to fix it manually in the manifest.yml file.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully building and deploying my first Forge app! Learning the basics of Atlassian Forge and seeing my app running in a real Jiraenvironment. Taking the first step toward building more complex apps in the future.
What we learned
How to set up the Forge CLI and the development environment. How to create a Forge app using the UI kit. The process of deploying and installing apps in Atlassian products.
What's next for Venkat's first Jira quest
Experiment with API integrations.
