Inspiration

The initial aim was to find a quick and cost-effective way for small businesses to create a website or mobile application for their business. We hope to empower small businesses with better data and analytic tools that gives them a better understanding of the in and outs of their business and not relying solely on intuition.

Luckily enough we stumbled upon the realization that there is no dedicated e-commerce platform for service based businesses. The closest alternative we saw were listing sites such as Angie's List and Craiglist.

What it does

Vendoor has two core objectives. 1) Allow service providers to list the specific services they offer, publish their storefront to the marketplace and 2) Allow customers to view storefront and request the services that they want.

How we built it

Building what we called Vendoor 1.0 is an experience like no other. As a team of three non-programmers coming together for the first time with only a passion for football in common, we have managed to put together a good product. Instead of each of us learning how to "code" we decided instead to split the team up into roles, and to build a mini company so to speak. We had a CEO who managed the team and production process, our talented CTO typed away at building the product despite this being the first time coding in his life. Last but not least was our R&D/support person, he did all the marketing research, content creation and errands, esentially the backbone that kept us going. We manage to turn an almost sure to lose team into a well oil war machine ready to compete.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges we ran into were so numerous that the only thing we were certain about at one point was that there would be problems. We didn't try to solve anything on our own instead we reached out immediately; Google, Youtube and the volunteers became our best friends.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am just proud we stuck together as a team right to the end. In hindsight I am not sure if we honestly thought we would have gotten the project completed in the alotted time. We are proud of ourselves and the level of commitment, we showed in sticking to the task and working hard.

What we learned

Hardwork and team work gets you there.

What's next for Vendoor

This is a concept we all excited about, we see the potential where it can become a viable business and so you can be sure that this workshop is just the beginning.
