Inspiration
We wanted a way to express emotions honestly without worrying about immediate delivery or judgment. Like messages in a bottle, but digital — a place to safely store letters to yourself, loved ones, or moments you’re ready to release.
What it does
Sealya lets you write heartfelt letters, seal them with a symbolic emoji, add a timestamp, and archive them privately. Letters can be organized, revisited, or left unopened, helping users process thoughts or preserve memories.
How I built it
We built Sealya as a responsive web app using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend. For the backend, we used Node.js with Express and a secure database to store letters and user data, ensuring privacy. The UI was designed with a minimalist aesthetic for a calm, focused writing experience.
Challenges we ran into
Designing an intuitive, distraction-free interface. Balancing privacy with features like search and filtering. Creating meaningful emoji seals that felt personal without cluttering the experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Seamless letter writing, sealing, and archiving flow. A unique, minimalist design true to our emotional journaling vision. Strong privacy features so users feel safe expressing their emotions.
What we learned
Even small design choices impact users’ emotional comfort. Handling sensitive data responsibly is crucial for trust. Building a simple experience can be harder than adding features.
What's next for Sealya
Introducing reminders to revisit or release letters. Premium customizations like themes, fonts, and virtual wax seals. Social features to share letters selectively with trusted people. Mobile app versions for iOS and Android.
