Inspiration

Most portfolio tools show you numbers. We wanted one that talks back with personality. When you're up 5% your wallet should sound excited. When you're down, it should be honest about it.

What it does

Vela is a read-only crypto portfolio AI. Paste any wallet address, no MetaMask, no signing. Vela reads your on-chain positions across Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and Solana, then responds to your questions in real voice with an emotional personality tied to your actual P&L.

How we built it

Next.js 14 App Router, Gemini 2.5 Flash for AI chat, Gemini TTS for mood-based voice synthesis, Alchemy for on-chain token reads, Zerion for DeFi positions, ElevenLabs as voice fallback, MongoDB for conversation memory.

Challenges

Getting voice to feel instant. We ended up streaming speech sentence by sentence as the AI generates, so the first word plays before the full response is done. Also building a mood system that injects real portfolio numbers into the TTS style prompt so the emotion feels genuine, not scripted.

What we learned

Browser SpeechSynthesis is surprisingly powerful for zero-latency voice. Real on-chain data is messy with spam tokens, dust, and unpriced assets. Zerion solved most of it in one API call.

What's next for Vela

The current version is read-only and conversational. The roadmap turns Vela into an active agent that manages your portfolio autonomously.

Market watching: Vela monitors price movements, on-chain signals, and portfolio drift in real time, not just when you ask.

Autonomous rebalancing: when a position gets too concentrated or an asset breaks a threshold, Vela proposes a swap or rotation and explains why in plain language before executing.

Decision memory: every trade Vela makes or suggests is stored with its reasoning. Over time it learns your risk tolerance, your goals, and what has worked for your specific wallet.

Proactive voice alerts: Vela calls out to you when something needs attention. Not a push notification, an actual voice message. "Your ARB position just dropped 12%. Want me to rotate into ETH?"

Wallet-native identity: your address becomes your profile. Vela knows your full history, your patterns, and your personality as an investor.

The vision: a portfolio that thinks, speaks, and acts on your behalf.
