Inspiration
The music, created with Pixio AI (model unknown), immediately evoked images of moonlit carnivals, whispering winds, and bittersweet wonder. Its atmosphere brought to mind Ray Bradbury’s classic Something Wicked This Way Comes and the sweeping gothic spectacle of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies. Those influences inspired a narrative about innocence, temptation, and the mysterious pull of a place that is both magical and dangerous — a “veil of night”.
How I built it
This project combined AI-assisted image and video generation with human direction and narrative design: ChatGPT: Served as a creative co-collaborator — brainstorming concepts, refining story beats, designing character arcs, structuring the narrative, and guiding the overall emotional direction of the video. Freepik AI (Seedream 4 4K): Created the 4K images that established the carnival’s look and tone. Plus provided several video clips from various models. Hailuo AI: Generated atmospheric start and end video sequences to frame the story. Higgsfield AI (Kling): Generated atmospheric start and end video sequences to frame the story. Topaz Labs Astra: Upscaled and refined images for a cinematic, polished finish. Canva Pro: Used for assembly, sequencing, and timing the visuals to match the music’s emotional rises and falls.
Challenges I ran into
Learning new tools: Adopting multiple image and video models and finding a cohesive visual style. Maintaining consistency: Ensuring the boy in the red scarf remained recognizable across every shot. Building long-form storytelling: Moving from short clips to a fully structured, multi-act music video with a clear emotional arc. Tone balance: Keeping the carnival magical yet ominous — walking the fine line between wonder and not veering into horror.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
Creating a fully realized world that feels like a dark fairytale come to life. Achieving a consistent character design for the boy and Trickster across scenes. Crafting a multi-generational ending that surprised viewers and left a haunting emotional impact. Learning to direct AI models like a film crew, using prompts to shape composition, lighting, and mood.
What I learned
I discovered that building a music video with AI tools is less about “generating images” and more about orchestrating a team of invisible artists — guiding each step with story intent, pacing, and emotional direction. I learned how to make AI images work together cohesively, when to iterate, and when to lean into imperfections to make the carnival world feel alive.
