Inspiration

I saw there was a need for a global scale vegetation monitoring app, which contributes to SDG 11 and SDG 13.

What it does

First off, the app allows the user to search up any city of their choosing and visualize Sentinel 2 data, which is a type of satellite data via an interactive map. Instantly after they click on a city they want to view, they will have visualizations of various vegetation indexes, giving a comprehensive understanding of various landscapes around the world.

How we built it

The app was built with the new Solara framework, using python. The code was written in VSCode.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge that we ran into was struggling to redirect the page once the button would click, often the page wouldn't redirect after a city was clicked.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that this app was able to contribute to many different UN SDG's. This app is extremely important to agricultural monitors. Since the app allows realtime visualizaiton of vegetation indexes anywhere in the world, these monitors can detect realtime changes in vegetation and crops. As a result, they can visualize the detrimental effects of climate change on vegetation in real time, while also giving them valuable insights for proper planning to stop these negative effects. These hit the SDG's of number 11 and 13.
