Inspiration
After a 21+ bender in Vegas, you, a UMass student with poor planning skills, find yourself miles from home with $100 to your name. You curse the slots, but they'll be key to helping you return as you hike cross country back to the most magical place on earth, or at least the best dining in America (screw you Disney).
What it does
This game that we have created is a combination of slot mechanics and a game called the Oregon trail. Within this game the player’s objective is to reach UMass Amherst starting from Las Vegas, Nevada. Along this journey the player will walk, buy powerups, play slots, and experience random chance events that determine both their movement and gain or loss in money.
The player wins the game when they have successfully reached the final destination with some health. However, if the player loses all their health before reaching UMass, the game ends with the player being stranded in one of the between states.
How we built it
We used Java & GitHub.
Challenges we ran into
We were challenged by merge conflicts & difficulties in Git Hub. We also had to do a lot of planning to build a reasonable scope for our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our ASCII Art stands out as a creative accomplishment for our team! We are also very proud of our project management growth from our last hackathon & we feel much more confident in our project and our skills!
What we learned
We learned about how to deal with merge conflicts in GitHub & learned a lot about ASCII Art.
What's next for Vegas to UMass Lottery Journey
We want to try to make this into a more formal Web App using JavaFX in the future!
