Inspiration

I was inspired by MEGA Hackathon’s call to use computer science to improve infrastructure and drive economic growth while addressing the United Nations' sustainable development goals. This challenge fueled my passion for sustainable living and veganism, creating Vegan Impact Hub.

What it does

Vegan Impact Hub is an all-in-one platform designed to empower users on their vegan journey. It:

  • Calculates your eco-impact with a user-friendly tool.
  • Tracks progress towards sustainable development goals.
  • Highlights the economic benefits of adopting a vegan lifestyle.
  • Provides a curated list of vegan restaurants.
  • Offers interactive quizzes.
  • Features a comprehensive recipe database with ingredient search.
  • Delivers a responsive design for all screens and supports dark mode for optimal viewing.

How I built it

I developed this project solo using modern web technologies:

  • Vite for fast development and optimized builds.
  • TypeScript for type safety and code maintainability.
  • React for building dynamic, responsive user interfaces.
  • shadcn-ui for accessible, pre-designed components.
  • Tailwind CSS for clean, responsive styling, including dark mode support.

Challenges I ran into

  • Integrating diverse data sources for real-time impact calculation.
  • Balancing a rich feature set with a clean, intuitive design.
  • Ensuring scalability and seamless performance across all devices and screen sizes.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Building a comprehensive platform from scratch within the hackathon environment.
  • Successfully merging sustainability, economic insights, and interactive user engagement.
  • Creating a tool that not only tracks eco-impact but also inspires a sustainable vegan lifestyle with a modern, responsive design.

What I learned

Through this project, I deepened my skills in web development, API integration, and user-centered design. I also learned how to effectively blend technical expertise with a mission-driven approach, aligning perfectly with the hackathon's objectives.

What's next for Vegan Impact Hub

Moving forward, I plan to:
