We wanted to build Vecino that could help deal with the ongoing events of increasing I.C.E. activity which can conflict with the heavily dense immigrant population of South Florida. By using optimized routing mixed with avoidance of high risk areas populated by these agents, we are able to keep many people; specifically Latinx, safe during transportation. We built this project using a python backend and a react/typescript frontend. Some of the challenges we faced was dependency issues, dividing responsibilities and utilizing GitHub to unite them, and conceptual issues regarding how to keep people safe during their day to day transportation.
