Inspiration
Planning squad trips and managing group finances always ends up messy chat threads, awkward payment reminders, and lost photos scattered across phone galleries. We wanted to build a single home for friend groups that treats trips and shared expenses like a unified vault: combining clear financial tracking, trip execution, and shared memories into one platform.
What it does
Vaulet is a social finance and lifestyle platform designed for friend groups. It brings clarity to shared experiences through four core features:
Squad Vaults: Pool group funds, log shared expenses, and track balances transparently without awkward manual calculations.
Anti-Flaker Lock: Secure micro-deposits from group members prior to trips to lock in commitments and prevent last-minute cancellations.
AI Itinerary Planner: Generate structured trip schedules tied directly to group budget allocations.
Memory Vault: Upload and link photos directly to expense receipts, transforming financial logs into interactive trip albums.
How we built it
Frontend: Built with responsive, semantic HTML5 and custom CSS built on a dedicated dark-mode color palette.
Tooling & Setup: Developed on an Ubuntu workspace using VS Code, tracking feature branches and assets via Git and GitHub.
Design Strategy: Designed with modular UI components, high contrast visual hierarchies, and explicit typography rules to keep financial data readable.
Challenges we ran into
Palette & Contrast: Fine tuning a sleek, dark-themed UI that remains legible when displaying financial tables, charts, and media cards side-by-side.
Data Association: Structuring clean UI relationships to link unstructured media files (photos) directly with structured transaction entries (receipts).
Feature Scope: Balancing complex features—like financial pooling, itinerary building, and photo archiving into a lightweight, non-cluttered user interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Designed and deployed a complete, functional front-end layout with a unified dark-mode design system.
Mapped out an intuitive user journey that bridges financial utility with personal memory keeping.
Built a clean repository architecture and development pipeline from scratch.
What we learned
Advanced CSS layout techniques (CSS Grid, Flexbox, custom variables) for building dark-theme dashboards.
Strategies for organizing multi-feature web platforms into straightforward user interfaces.
Optimizing Git workflow and local build environments on Linux.
What's next for Vaulet
OCR Receipt Reader: Adding automated receipt scanning to auto-fill itemized split bills.
Backend & Auth: Implementing full-stack user authentication, relational databases, and dynamic state management.
Payment Integration: Integrating instant payment APIs to enable direct, real-time wallet settlements inside the app.
