Logline: Cast into the cursed forest by those who envy her, a quiet young girl must follow the guidance of a mysterious talisman and brave the horrors of Baba Yaga’s domain to seize her own fate.

This particular fairy tale has never been adapted for the screen, but many films with similar storylines exist. They have always taken a lubok-style, overtly fantastical approach, filled with visible magic. I became interested in a more realistic interpretation of this project—one with less explicit supernatural elements, where events unfold in accordance with the beliefs people held at the time. The girl must undergo an initiation ritual, come of age, and find a way to resist the cruelty inflicted upon her by her stepmother and stepsisters. The goal is to delve deeply into the historical context of the everyday life of the Slavic peoples in the northeastern part of Europe during the pre-Christian era, the 8th–9th centuries AD.
