Inspiration
With just a few seconds of someone's voice, AI can now clone it well enough to fool their own family. Scammers use these fake voices to stage emergencies, rush the victim, keep them on the line, and get money sent before anyone can check. Warnings don't stop a panicking parent. A trusted person does. Vantaris pauses the risky payment and brings in family, a trusted contact or and a Sound Credit Union specialist, plus a family code word no voice clone can fake.
What it does
Vantaris notices when a payment looks risky, pauses it, and brings in the right person before the money is gone.
- Spot: Every payment gets a risk score from data Sound Credit Union already has. Is this a new person? A much bigger amount than usual? A wire or Zelle that can't be undone? No age, phone calls or device data, ever.
- Pause: Risky payment? The member answers 5 quick questions in about 20 seconds, like "Did you hear a family member's voice asking for money?" A "Yes" pauses the money for up to 4 hours, safe at the credit union.
- Bring in a person: One tap calls the family member on their real number. A trusted contact gets a text. An SCU specialist is ready to help.
How I built it
- Data Analysis: Analyzed 7,471 events across 118 members in Python and built a transparent 0–100 risk score from existing SCU fields. No AI in money decisions.
- Testing: Flagged 48 of 48 scam and takeover members, with 12 of 70 legitimate members held (in-sample, synthetic data). Validated end to end on the kit anchors, a legitimate look-alike and a real family case.
- Prototype: Clickable Lovable (React) demo with synced member, trusted-contact and SCU staff views. Built with Python, Lovable and Claude.
Challenges
- Detection alone doesn't stop scams. Timing and the right person do.
- The strongest defense can be low-tech: a family safe word.
- Accessibility has to be designed in, because "we'll call you" doesn't reach everyone.
- Shame keeps victims silent, so every Vantaris screen says "You did nothing wrong."

What's next
- Pilot: $15,000, 90 days, about 5,000 SCU members, starting in shadow mode.
- Estimated impact: about $38K a month, or $450K a year, roughly 30× the pilot cost (assumes $1.5M yearly scam exposure, with stops rising from 20% to 50%).
- Scale: a shared watch list of known scam accounts, so every bank that joins makes every other bank safer.
Estimates to be validated with SCU's real data.
