Inspiration applications that show walkin clinic wait times but for homeless shelter availability
What it does allows shelters to live update their availability so people looking for accomodation have a better idea of where to go
How I built it using node and express and html to build the application
Challenges I ran into remembering how to create a node application and how to create a map interface that shows the location of shelters. The time limit of the Hackathon meant there was less time available to research it thoroughly but allowed for us to learn of prebuilt location map interfaces that can be added. Given more time to research, we could look into how to incorporate the google maps interface that uses csv files to load its location data rather than the static data we have now.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of the idea we came up with! After some quick research, we determined that there currently is no real service for this proposed concept. We feel that if we could get this application working with more time, this could be a really useful tool for people in need.
What I learned We learned to add a map location finder with filters to an application through apis
What's next for Vancouver Shelters given more time, we can develop this into a fiull application with more filters for soup kitchens, dental care, and private businesses that want to help. so this can become a compiled resource making it easier for people to find help.
