Inspiration
We were amazed at how simple every day occurrences caused so much distress and chaos in peoples daily lives. Even more amazing were the things everyone seemingly knew they were coming yet still failed to prepare for. We thought that a lot of these were unconscious bad habits built over time. By bringing it to the forefront of people's minds we wanted to make them more aware and help them make better decisions
What it does
Our game aims to have you survive until the end of the road while everyday chaotic events happen. It aims to mimic the real life scenarios, from a simple weather inconvenience, to drivers cutting you off.
How we built it
We built the entire game using godot game engine, and photoshop for image edits
Challenges we ran into
learning the language, nodes, syntax and everything else about the godot engine as none of us had ever used it before. It took quite a bit of time to understand how nodes and functions were linked and how to properly call them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Got something hilarious working! We aimed for the moon and landed on the stars. At one point we were unsure if we would be able to put something together because of how elements were not coming together, but throught persistance, grit, and a ton of coffee, we somehow suceeded in the end
What we learned
It was challenging working on different parts at different times. Pushes and pulls would occasionally break someones game file causing wasted time in having to reclone the repo. Through trial and error we figured out what was causing which issues and worked together to create a pattern to avoid them as much as possible. Coordination was key and it did not come easy
What's next for Vancouver Driving School
The big picture for this game was to allow you to freely roam the map of vancouver, with events randomly apearing as you drive which make the game longer and more enjoyable. We believe this could be a great educational tool for people as we bring cause and effect to the forefront so they become more aware of their own habits and patterns. Accident causing heavy traffic? Stop RUBBERNECKING! ambulance coming your way? pull to the right!. We can make the game a lot more interactive and fun.
