Inspiration

I like vampire stories. The good ones, anyway.

What it does

Tracks vampire sightings around the UK via Google Maps API, while providing commentary about when/where reports came about.

How I built it

Built from the ground up using Bootstrap. None of that 'drag and drop' for me. I don't exactly have the budget for Squarespace anyway.

Challenges I ran into

APIs and domains are very... demanding of you. It feels like you have to jump through a lot of hoops just to get something to work, and you're often waiting around for things to start working, which is quite problematic when you're doing a race against the hackathon clock.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I made the thing.

What I learned

Bootstrap is sexy and I should use it more often.

What's next for VampireTracker.tech

Someone remind me to disable the API key in case someone pinches it.

Note: The website will not stay up indefinitely, and maps functionality will be removed from the live site post-hackathon. I don't fancy the chances of someone pinching my API key, even if I did do all those security measures.
