Inspiration

Inspired by the Hungry Ghost festival where once a year the gates of hell are open and ghosts roam the streets looking for offerings and to haunt the occasional human who accidentally steps in their food.
We normally don't see them ghosts but you can see anything in Augmented Reality right? This filter lets you step into their realm, the Valley of the Damned, after touching a cursed torch light. Once there, you find batteries to keep your lights on and defend yourself.

Features:

  • The zombie is a 3D scan of me, animations are mostly motion captured in-house at DUDE
  • Zombie AI pathfinding that knows where you are and will come find you!
  • User can physically step away to dodge attacks if they time it proper. #6dof
  • Zombie recycling/respawn system at variable speeds, health and strength relative to how well the user plays
  • Optimized collision detection between the projectile and zombies and the plane tracker floor.
  • Gravity
  • UI-less ui, no traditional crosshair or ammo indicator. Torch light shine helps users aim, battery is indicated on the torch. Health is indicated by a red vignette and audible heartbeats
  • Spatial audio! explosions and sound effects are softer the further away they are and are loudest if they happen near you
  • Scene lighting is limited to 4 lights, one of each type: Lightning effects made with one directional light
  • Torch light uses a spot light that dims when the torch is out of power
  • 1 point light is recycled to light all the special effects and explosions
  • 1 ambient light is responsible for the light to dark transition that starts the experience
  • Tap on objects to pick them up, tap anywhere else to fire
  • delay renderpass used to indicate that you have died and are now a zombie in the valley of the damned
  • No health regeneration, every hit you take is a step closer to your permanent residence in this scenic valley

Accidental Feature:

Because of how unpredictable the plane tracker scale can be, you might find yourself fighting lumbering giants or little pygmy zomzoms.
