Inspiration: Valley Moves was created because transportation information in California’s Central Valley is spread across too many different websites. We wanted to make it easier for people to compare buses, trains, rural transit, rideshare options, airports, and road conditions in one place.
What It Does: The website helps users search transportation options, check the weather, find fares and schedules, compare trip starting points, and visit official operator websites. It also supports English and Spanish, light and dark modes, and provides help with common travel questions.
How We Built It: Valley Moves was built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We created a custom liquid-glass design with responsive layouts, smooth transitions, and theme controls. A lightweight Node.js server handles the website and its supporting features.
Challenges We Ran Into: One challenge was making sure the information stayed accurate. We worked to avoid showing outdated prices, schedules, or transportation details as guaranteed facts. We also had to make the site work well on different screen sizes and keep the dropdown menus readable in both themes.
Accomplishments We’re Proud Of: We’re proud of creating a clean, modern website that brings many transportation options together without making the experience confusing. The site is responsive, bilingual, and designed to help users find trustworthy official information quickly.
What We Learned: We learned that transportation websites need to be clear about where their information comes from and how often it changes. Good design also requires careful attention to accessibility, contrast, and mobile usability.
What’s Next: Future plans include adding more cities, live transit updates, accessibility filters, service alerts and maps.
