Inspiration
Valetudo started from a pretty simple frustration. We work out regularly and track calories, especially with summer coming up, but it always meant switching between multiple apps — one for workouts, another for food, and sometimes a third just to see what friends are doing. Workout apps focus on lifting, calorie apps focus on food, and the social side is either limited or locked behind paywalls. We wanted one place where training, nutrition, and community actually live together.
What it does
Valetudo is a mobile-first fitness app that combines workout tracking, calorie logging, and social accountability in one place. Instead of switching between multiple apps, users can log workouts, track nutrition, and see friends’ activity all in a single, clean interface designed for daily use.
How we built it
Frontend React (Vite) JavaScript Plain CSS (no Tailwind) Mobile-first layout Backend FastAPI (Python) REST APIs for food + workouts Git + GitHub (branch-based workflow) Tested on real phones via local network / ngrok
Challenges we ran into
Merging branches as a team was one of our biggest challenges, especially when multiple features were being developed at the same time. We also ran into difficulties setting up and integrating Supabase, which forced us to rethink parts of our backend approach and simplify our data flow under time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of building an app under tight time constraints and successfully merging multiple features as a team. We implemented a clean workout tracking interface, set up the foundation for nutrition logging, and established a solid development workflow that allowed us to keep moving forward despite technical challenges.
What we learned
We learned how important clear team workflows are when building fast, especially around branching and merging code. We also learned to prioritize core features over extra complexity and to design mobile-first from the start rather than adapting a desktop layout later.
What's next for Valetudo
Next, we want to expand Valetudo by adding a full food database, deeper workout analytics, and more detailed exercise logging. We also plan to build out the social features with profiles, streaks, and community challenges to make consistency and accountability even stronger.
