Inspiration

We love helping the community by volunteering and realized that finding the right volunteer work may be a daunting task. There are a lot of causes that you can give back to through volunteering and we wanted to help users find the perfect volunteering opportunities based on their interests and build connections with others that have similar interests.

What it does

Valenteer allows users to search for volunteering events based on either their interests or their locations. By signing up and attending these events, users can connect to other users that have attended the same events. When connected with other users, you can find similar interests and related upcoming events to attend together.

How we built it

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Google Maps API, HighCharts

Challenges we ran into

We each have different levels of experience with web development and there was a lot of confusion in the beginning about implementation that slowed us down in the beginning, but we were able to pick it up towards the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learned a lot more about web development and new technologies through this project.

What we learned

We learned the importance of communication and collaboration while working on Valenteer. There were plenty of rough patches along the way due to a lack of experience with web development but we managed to push through it through perseverance.
