Inspiration

Our love for travel and the desire to create a personalized experience for every adventurer inspired us to develop Vagabond. We wanted to eliminate the hassle of sifting through generic travel suggestions and empower users with tailor-made recommendations.

What it does

Vagabond is a travel website that allows users to input their interests, explore an interactive globe, and select their dream destination. It uses OpenAI GPT to generate personalized travel tips, off-the-beaten-path recommendations, and must-see attractions based on users' preferences.

How we built it

We built Vagabond using a combination of web development technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the front-end, while integrating OpenAI's GPT for generating personalized travel suggestions. Most of the elements were written using React. We incorporated an interactive globe feature using WebGL to create a seamless user experience.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the OpenAI GPT model into our website and ensuring accurate, relevant travel recommendations based on users' interests were some of the main challenges we faced during the development process. Training the model so that it could give us the right answers was definitely a challenge. Furthermore, understanding the documentation of the various APIs that we had to use was definitely tough. We aim to further improve the accuracy of the information given by the OpenAI response.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a user-friendly website that delivers a truly personalized travel experience. The seamless integration of the interactive globe and the AI-powered recommendations have exceeded our expectations.

What we learned

We learned the importance of understanding user preferences and how AI-powered solutions can greatly improve user experience. Additionally, we gained valuable experience in integrating advanced AI models into web applications. We also learned to use efficiently utilise different APIs to power our own web application.

What's next for Vagabond

The future for Vagabond includes refining the AI recommendations, expanding our database to cover more destinations, integrating real-time data for up-to-date suggestions, and developing a mobile app version to provide a seamless experience across devices.
