Inspiration

The idea was born from a simple, everyday observation: people often waste time switching between multiple grocery apps like Flipkart, Blinkit, Zepto, JioMart, BigBasket, Swiggy Instamart, and Dunzo just to compare prices, delivery charges, and delivery times. This manual process is frustrating, confusing, and inefficient.

Seeing this pain point sparked the thought — what if there was one platform that did all the comparisons instantly?

By combining real-time price data, AI-driven personalization, and smart delivery insights, the app aims to save users both time and money, while also making grocery shopping more transparent, predictive, and hassle-free.

What it does

The app is a smart grocery assistant that compares prices, delivery times, and availability across multiple platforms in real time. It helps users save money and time by showing the best deals instantly, while AI-powered features suggest substitutes, predict reorders, and personalize choices based on preferences and dietary needs. With historic price tracking, nutrition filters, and transparent order tracking, it transforms grocery shopping into a faster, cheaper, and smarter experience.

How we built it

We built the app by integrating multiple data sources from grocery platforms through APIs and web scraping to gather real-time prices, availability, and delivery estimates. This data is processed in the backend using comparison algorithms and AI models that handle personalization, predictive reordering, and smart substitutions. A machine learning layer analyzes purchase history, nutrition tags, and price trends to generate tailored recommendations and deal predictions. The frontend was designed as a clean, user-friendly mobile app where users can search for items, compare options, and track orders seamlessly. Cloud-based infrastructure ensures scalability, while community features and crowdsourced inputs keep the data fresh and reliable.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was collecting accurate, real-time data from multiple grocery platforms, since not all of them provide open APIs and some actively block scraping. Ensuring that the price and delivery information stayed up to date across different regions was also complex. Another difficulty was handling the variations in product names, sizes, and packaging between platforms, which required building a normalization system to match items correctly. On the technical side, integrating AI for personalized recommendations and predictive ordering demanded clean datasets and careful model training. We also faced challenges in designing a simple, intuitive interface that could present large amounts of information without overwhelming users. Finally, ensuring scalability, quick response times, and reliability under heavy traffic pushed us to refine our backend infrastructure and caching strategies.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully building a platform that brings together data from multiple grocery apps like Flipkart, Blinkit, Zepto, JioMart, BigBasket, Swiggy Instamart, and Dunzo into one seamless interface. Creating a reliable price comparison system despite differences in product listings and availability across platforms was a major achievement. We also take pride in implementing AI-powered features such as personalized recommendations, smart substitutions, and predictive ordering, which make the app more than just a comparison tool. Another accomplishment was designing a clean, intuitive user interface that simplifies a complex process without overwhelming users. Most importantly, we managed to turn a common frustration faced by millions of online grocery shoppers into a working, innovative solution that saves both time and money.

What we learned

Working on this project taught us how challenging and rewarding it is to build a real-world solution that directly addresses everyday user frustrations. We learned the importance of handling messy, inconsistent data from different platforms and how to normalize it for meaningful comparisons. We also gained experience in integrating AI for personalization and predictions, which highlighted the need for clean, structured datasets. Designing the user interface showed us that simplicity and clarity are just as important as technical accuracy, since users want quick insights without complexity. Most importantly, we realized how crucial it is to balance technical innovation with actual user needs — the best product is not just the most advanced one, but the one that makes people’s lives easier.

What's next for Grocerly

Our next step is to expand Grocerly into a more comprehensive grocery ecosystem. We plan to integrate with even more retailers and local stores to give users broader choices and deeper coverage. AI capabilities will be enhanced to include smarter meal planning, dietary coaching, and automated reordering based on consumption patterns. We also aim to introduce subscription-based premium features such as exclusive deal alerts, bulk-purchase optimizations, and advanced health-focused filters. On the community side, we want to strengthen user reviews, crowdsourced price updates, and shared shopping lists to make Grocerly more collaborative. Finally, scaling the platform with cloud infrastructure and strategic partnerships will help us reach more cities, ensuring that Grocerly continues to evolve into the go-to hub for transparent, intelligent, and stress-free grocery shopping.
