Inspiration

After the launch of the COVID-19 vaccine, there is a fear in the minds of everyone that the vaccination centers may get fake vaccines due to some mishappening between the sending and receiving of the vaccines.

What it does

The vaccine manufacturer will scan the vaccine using the QR code scanner on our web application and the details of the vaccine like the name, date of manufacturing, date of expiry & price will automatically be updated on the blockchain. The vaccination centre can also scan the QR code on the vaccine & get the name of the vaccine, name of the manufacturer, its MRP along with its manufacturing & expiry date. The same interface can be used to determine where the chain has been broken in case of issues such as theft/ counterfeiting off vaccines and the required action can be taken by the respective authorities.

How we built it

For Building this project we use React JS with useContext API for the frontend. For the backend part, we majorly use python-based library flask and SQLite database. For the Blockchain part, we use etherum and solidity technology. We used GitHub for version control and communication between contributors. We regularly been in touch with each other through google meet and solve the issues together.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we faced during this project is that time constraint, we have a lot of things to do but a few of them couldn't be completed or performed. And another problem we face is that we need to connect through online meet not personally.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We feel accomplished since we were able to make something that would help the government agencies in the vaccination drive of the country. Working for humanity is something which we are very proud of

What we learned

We learned in practice how to solve a real-life working problem in a short span of time & making a working prototype of the solution. Other than that, we learned how to collaborate with other people for a continuous period of time. We also gathered knowledge about how to divide the tasks among different team members in order to fasten our work. Also, it gave us a good experience towards open source

What's next for VACCINOMETER

It can be extended to the tracking of vaccines other than COVID vaccines as well as medicines. Its public accessibility, security, immutability, and lack of reliance on third-party entities to facilitate transactions mean that blockchain technology can be used to improve the transparency and reduce counterfeiting of not only vaccines but any field that involves a supply chain, like food commodities, textiles, etc. With the implementation of PWA, we aim at providing users with the chance to monitor their vaccines/medicines even if they have less connectivity.
